How to interpret: Estimated annualized paycheck figures, not a payroll-provider quote or a tax return. Assumes W-2 wage income. State tax uses simplified 2026 tables for all states and D.C.; local taxes must be entered, and 2027 state rates reuse 2026 estimates. State deductions, state tax credits, HSA conformity and state-specific payroll taxes can differ. CA/NJ HSA state tax add-backs are modeled approximately. These are planning estimates, not an official state tax return or payroll quote. HSA contributions via payroll; full-year employment and HSA eligibility; employee traditional 401(k) reduces federal taxable wages but not FICA wages. Employee Roth 401(k) does not reduce taxable wages. 2027 federal brackets and standard deduction are projections as of Nov. 3, 2026, editable in the file's TAX_TABLES constant once official IRS numbers are issued. 2026 values are published IRS figures. Bonus withholding may differ from its eventual tax cost. F-1 automatic FICA switch is only a simplified first-five-calendar-years assumption, and actual tax residency, treaty eligibility, employer treatment and days of presence can change results. HSA limits require qualifying coverage and may need proration for partial-year eligibility; 401(k) and HSA limits have extra rules for age and multiple jobs.
